It was the year 2107 when things began to change. Until that point, the humans had continued to thrive, despite the polluted conditions of their planet. Technology had advanced, and the older ways forgotten. That year, one among thousands, was the year that space travel peaked. Astronauts had gone out on a mission twenty years before, to a new galaxy in which scientists assured the public there would be a new planet, safe and uncontaminated, for them to relocate to. The shuttle had recently come back with good news. The whole galaxy, though smaller than the Milky Way, held three inhabitable planets, which was more than enough even in consideration of the human population. Most people could even bring their pets. Unfortunately, larger animals and feral animals had to be left behind.
So began the process of getting prepared to leave. Shuttles capable of travel that far and that fast were built, vast quantities of them littered every possible field. Buildings were torn down to make more space for shuttles and people were temporarily housed together, up to ten in the average house. They believed it worth the sacrifice, and so they held on, all the while farmers were getting their livestock used to living on their own. Before the time came to leave, they tore down as many buildings as they could so the earth could re-grow the plant life when they were gone.
When the humans left in 2158, the pollution was already taking its toll on the animals. Many species became extinct, or endangered, but one thrived, adapting to the new conditions with surprising ease. Evolution continued on its course for another five hundred years or so until, finally, the continents once again collided. That’s when problems began to arise. New mountain ranges were formed as they plates beneath the surface drove the land up, but they weren’t enough of a barrier. War was about to begin.
By this point, the horses had evolved into a more advanced species. Bright, colourful markings weren’t uncommon, nor were wings, horns, antlers, and other such growths. With this evolution came powers in a vast variety. The battles were more dangerous, the disagreements could be deadly, and the population was expanding. Borders began to get pushed and prodded, fought over more than before, as each herd strove to get to the top. Only one area stayed out of it.
This small group of equines harboured any who didn’t feel the need to fight. They taught ways of peace, ways without war. Disputes were settled through mediated talks, and if a stallion wanted another’s mare, they would offer something in exchange, ranging from mare from the wanting stallion’s herd, to a chunk of land. If one herd was running out of food, they went to their neighbour to discuss how they could get enough. It was calmer there than it had ever been, and they were secluded. The place became known as the Haven.
The question still remains, though. Will you join one of the warring herds? Will alliances be formed among them? Or will you join the Haven herds instead? How long can Haven stay out of the wars, and how will they react when they are finally found? It’s your life and your choice; choose wisely, or else face the only remaining consequence--Death.
